Lighting The Hundredth Chamber was not about making every corner visible. It was about deciding what the room should reveal and what it should keep private.

Across twelve sets, we used two 500-watt lights, two 400-watt WRGB lights, two 300-watt lights, tungsten practicals and candles. The equipment remained consistent, but the emotional purpose changed from one setup to the next.

Blue outside, warmth within

One of the central colour ideas was the tension between cool window-blue and warm interior light. Blue created distance, night and memory. Tungsten and candlelight brought the body back into warmth. When balanced carefully, the colours did not compete. They created emotional depth.

Negative space was equally important. Darkness gave the frame privacy and allowed a face, shoulder, fabric edge or reflection to carry more meaning.

Lighting as direction

A lighting plan changes how a muse feels inside the room. Harder light can create authority. A soft window can create pause. A narrow pool of warmth can make a large hall feel intensely private. For us, lighting is not decoration after the idea. It is part of the story itself.
